Enable lock screen controls immediately after turning off display

If the phone is open in the DoggCatcher app and I turn off the display (i.e., press the on/off button) or simply let the phone be idle and have the display automatically turn itself off, then when I turn the phone back on I'd like to see the DoggCatcher lock screen controls displayed so I could (for example) just press the "Play" button without having to first unlock the phone. This would be very useful when driving when I don't want to start playing a podcast until I'm on the highway.
